About Me
Welcome, I’m Janette.
I am a UKCP and BACP registered integrative and trauma-informed psychotherapist offering therapy to adult individuals and couples, both in person from my practice in Nottingham and remotely via Zoom. I provide a space where you can feel met without judgment, a place to pause, reflect, and explore what’s happening for you with care and attention.
You may be facing something that feels overwhelming, unclear, or difficult to express. Or perhaps you're navigating long-standing patterns, life changes, relationship issues, or the emotional impact of events past or present. Whatever brings you to therapy, I aim to offer a calm, steady presence and a collaborative space where your experiences can be understood, and where healing, resilience, and new possibilities can emerge.
My approach is grounded in a relational and developmental model, which recognises how early relationships and life experiences shape the way we relate to ourselves and others. I draw from a range of evidence-based therapies including EMDR, Parks Inner Child Therapy (PICT), and intuitive trauma work, integrating them naturally to suit your individual needs.
I welcome clients with diverse identities, backgrounds, and lived experiences. I have particular interest and experience in supporting clients exploring neurodivergence, including ADHD, autism, and Tourette’s, and those preparing for or recovering from life-changing or life-saving surgeries, where identity, body image, or emotional adjustment are significant.
Whether you're reaching out for the first time or returning to therapy after a pause, you're very welcome here.
My Services
I provide short, medium, and long-term therapy for adult individuals and couples. People come to therapy for many different reasons, sometimes with a clear focus, other times with a sense that something isn’t quite right. My approach allows us to explore what matters most to you, at your pace. Here are some of the areas I regularly support clients with:
Emotional Wellbeing
Difficult feelings can become overwhelming, or we may struggle to express them at all. I offer space to explore and make sense of emotions such as:
- Persistent anxiety, low mood, or emotional numbness.
- Feelings of shame, guilt, overwhelm, or disconnection.
- Low self-worth, self-criticism, or people-pleasing patterns.
- Difficulty regulating emotions or responding to stress.
Mental Illness & Diagnosis
A formal diagnosis may bring clarity, or it may feel confusing, stigmatising, or incomplete. Whether you’re navigating a new diagnosis, long-standing mental illness, or ongoing symptoms, therapy can provide a supportive space to reflect on:
- Living with a diagnosis such as bipolar disorder, borderline.
- Personality disorder, OCD, PTSD, or depression.
- The emotional impact of psychiatric labels or medication.
- Finding identity and agency beyond clinical definitions.
- Managing symptoms such as dissociation, mood swings, panic, or intrusive thoughts.
- Working alongside other mental health professionals and services.
Relationships
Our relationships can be a source of connection and fulfilment, or of distress and confusion. I support individuals and couples with:
- Repeated conflict or difficulty communicating
- Issues of trust, jealousy, emotional withdrawal, or resentment.
- Infidelity, betrayal, or secrecy.
- Life transitions affecting the relationship (e.g., parenting, illness, fertility, retirement).
- Support in deciding whether to grow together or separate thoughtfully.
Trauma & Abuse
Trauma may stem from a single event or accumulate over time. I have extensive experience working with:
- Complex and developmental trauma from childhood
Sexual abuse, domestic violence, or emotional neglect. - Grief, sudden loss, and traumatic bereavement (including homicide or manslaughter).
- Flashbacks, dissociation, and the body’s responses to trauma.
- Working in collaboration with other services (legal, medical, advocacy).
Health, Surgery & Identity
I have a particular interest in supporting clients who are preparing for or recovering from major surgery, particularly where the procedure is life-changing, life-saving, or alters one’s body. Areas of focus may include:
- Mastectomies, hysterectomies, bowel surgeries, kidney or testicle removal and more.
- The emotional impact of medical trauma or surgical recovery.
- Identity, grief, and adjustment related to physical changes.
- Sexual health, body image, and self-esteem.
- Ongoing health challenges, long-term illness, or fatigue.
Neurodivergence
It is increasingly common for adults to explore whether they may be neurodivergent. Some clients come with a diagnosis; others are in the early stages of recognising patterns. Therapy can be a supportive space to:
- Reflect on ADHD, autism, or Tourette’s and how they shape your life.
- Process past misunderstandings, masking, or burnout.
- Explore sensory sensitivities, social fatigue, or executive function struggles.
- Build confidence, self-understanding, and strategies that honour your needs.
- Navigate diagnosis, self-identification, or professional referrals.
Work, Pressure & Identity
The pressures of daily life, including work, family, and identity expectations, can leave us exhausted, disconnected, or questioning our direction. I support clients with:
- Workplace stress, bullying, or burnout.
- Career transitions or role changes.
- Feeling stuck, lost, or uncertain about purpose.
- Balancing multiple roles and responsibilities.
- Reconnecting with creativity, rest, or joy.
